Step-by-Step Cleaning Process

Step 1 · High-Powered HEPA Vacuum Extraction (20 min / mattress)

We began with our industrial HEPA filtration vacuum (2000 watts, specialised mattress nozzle). Unlike standard vacuums that recirculate fine particles back into the air, HEPA filtration captures particles as small as 0.3 microns, including dust-mite bodies, fecal matter and shed skin cells.

Working in slow, overlapping strokes across both faces and all four sides, this step alone extracted heavy grey particulate from the children’s mattresses.

Step 2 · Organic Enzyme Pre-Treatment Soak (10 min apply + 20 min dwell)

We misted a plant-based enzyme pre-treatment across both faces of each mattress. Its naturally derived proteolytic and amylase enzymes begin breaking down sweat proteins, body oils, biological staining and dust-mite allergen residue at room temperature, loosening embedded matter so the steam can flush it far more effectively.

  • Denatures the allergen proteins that trigger respiratory and skin reactions
  • Flushes the biological matter loosened by the enzyme pre-treatment
  • Eliminates embedded odor at the source instead of masking it
  • Reduces internal moisture to safe levels via controlled dry vapour

Dry steam introduces only 5 to 6% moisture, so the mattress reaches safe dryness within 90 minutes, avoiding the 24 to 48-hour drying (and secondary mold risk) of wet extraction.

Step 4 · Hot Water Extraction Rinse (20 min / mattress)

A deep rinse cycle circulated heated water at controlled pressure to physically flush out dissolved enzyme residue, loosened allergen particles, remaining biological debris and residual discoloration, injecting and recovering water in a single pass.

What came out of the children’s mattresses visibly shocked the mother: recovery water from Child Bed 1 ran dark grey, despite the mattress looking clean beforehand.

Step 5 · Organic Anti-Allergen Protective Barrier Mist (10 min / mattress)

A final barrier derived from naturally occurring tannic acid with eucalyptus and tea-tree extracts:

  • Immediate action: tannic acid denatures the Der p1 dust-mite allergen protein on contact
  • Ongoing protection: the plant-extract barrier inhibits dust-mite re-colonization for up to 6 months
